Frances A. (DeLucia) DeBaggis, 84 of Old Saybrook, Connecticut and formerly of Franklin died September 5 in the Saybrook Health Center in Old Saybrook. She was the wife of the late Michael P. DeBaggis who died in 1990.
Born in Franklin, March 28, 1925, the daughter of the late Ralph and Amelia (Ditto) DeLucia, Mrs. DeBaggis had lived in Franklin for most of her life. She was a graduate of Franklin High School.
Mrs. DeBaggis had been the cafeteria manager at Franklin High School for many years. When Tri County High School opened in 1977, she then became their first cafeteria manager, a post she held for the next 15 years until her retirement in 1992.
She was devoted to the kids and to the mission of Tri County to provide technical training and to prepare students for work or college. To that end she started and for many years ran the Tri County Bingo to raise money for scholarships.
Mrs. DeBaggis also enjoyed the long Summer breaks, when she and her husband Mike would spend most of the summer at their cottage in Dennisport Cape Cod. They delighted in lots of company, most times unannounced but always welcome, and a lot of great times with family and friends at Haggis Beach.
She took pride in feeding hundreds of kid’s everyday, but she really loved to bake, and everyone enjoyed her apple pies.
A parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, she had been an active member of the Sons of Italy, until she moved to an assisted living community in Madison, CT in 2003.
She is survived by her son Michael P. DeBaggis Jr. and his wife JoAnn of Westbrook, CT and her daughter Amelia DeBaggis and her husband Joseph Kunz of East Bethel, Minnesota.
She is also survived by her sisters Lillian Abbott and Eleanor Vipraio of Franklin.
She loved and will be truly missed by her granddaughters, Melissa Glance of Deep River, CT, Julie DiNicola of Hopkinton, Amy Reardon of Essex, CT and Jodi Morris of Essex, Ct and their husbands and six wonderful great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 10 from the Ginley Funeral Home fo Franklin, 131 Main St., Franklin at 11:15 a.m. followed by a funerla Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Church Square, Franklin at Noon.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
