Obituary

DRACUT - William James Mullin, Jr., 83, a longtime resident of Dracut, died Sunday, September 6th at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Irene (Bechard) Mullin, with whom he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary on June 12th.

He was born in Lowell on October 15, 1925, and he was the son of the late William J. Mullin, Sr, and Jenny (Spencer) Mullin. He attended Lowell schools and he was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School and Lowell High School. He was also a graduate of Feener Technical School of Design and he studied structural engineering at Lowell Institute a division of Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Mr. Mullin proudly served his country as a gunner in the 94th bomb group of the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He and his crew flew 32 missions over Germany aboard the Million Dollar Baby.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years as a structural engineer and a light steel estimator.

His family remembers him for his high integrity, honesty and his humanity. He quietly helped to improve the lives of others in significant ways.

He was a lifelong communicant of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Dracut. He was a charter member of the CCD Board of Religious Education, and a member of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, the Men's Club, and the Holy Name Society.

He was also a charter and honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo Joyal Council 4425 in Dracut, a member of the Dracut American Legion, Leo C. Roth Post 315, a charter member of the Dracut Permanent Building Committee, and a former member of the Dracut School Building Committee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, W. Spencer Mullin of Chelmsford, Colleen Swinarski and her husband Jake of Dracut, Douglas Mullin of Salem, NH, Stephen Mullin and his wife Nancy of Tyngsboro, and Kevin Mullin of Dracut; eleven grandchildren, Stephen C. Mullin and his wife Jennifer, Brian D. McInerney and Angela Ciprari, Meghann L. McInerney, Ryan Mullin and his wife Lynn, Christopher Mullin, Katherine Mullin, Jake Mullin, Samantha Mullin, Timothy Mullin, Jennifer Mullin, and Nicholas Runowicz; and a great grandson Stephen Z. Mullin.
He was also the father-in-law of the late Robin (Lowe) Mullin.

It being his wishes, there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Rita Church in Lowell.
