Obituary

Beaufort T. “Mac” McCants, 90, of Ravenel, husband of 67 years to Annie Mae Dennis McCants died Wednesday morning, September 2, 2009 at Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 11:00 at Sauldam Baptist Church, Ravenel. Inurnment will follow in White Church Cemetery, Ravenel. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church from 10:00 until the hour of service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: John M. Still Burn Center, 1220 George C. Wilson Drive, Augusta, Georgia 30909. Mac was born October 5, 1918 in Andrews, South Carolina, a son of the late William N. and Lollie C. Hughes McCants. He was an active member of Sauldam Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Director and was Chairman of the Board of Deacons for many years. He also worked with RAs where he and Rev. Arthur Smith coached the RA Slowpitch Softball team that won championship in 1962. He was a life member of Jacksonboro Masonic Lodge #206, a life member of Scottish Rites Masonry and a member of Omar Shrine Temple of Charleston/Mt. Pleasant. He was a past patron of Carolina Chapter #25 Order of the Eastern Star; he served 3 years and 8 months in the Civilian Conservation Corps “CCC”. After a near fatal accident, he went to work with West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. in Georgetown, SC. On December 6, 1941, he married Annie Mae Dennis of Kingstree, SC. During World War II, he worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Shipfitter for 3 years. After the war, he went back to work with Westvaco in the Southern Woodlands Division as a Supervisor in the Ravenel area. He retired from Westvaco with 42 years of service. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed sports, camping, family, friends and was a Clemson fan. He is survived in addition to his wife, by 1 son: Theron (Gayle) McCants of Reidville, SC. 3 daughters: Von (Trenholm) Doyle of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Tricia (Virgil) Cordray of Savannah, GA and Kaye (Mark) Parker of Harleyville, SC. 5 grandchildren: Brian McCants, Rev. Brad (Michele) Cordray, Stacey (Matt) Dryden, Jonathan Parker and Benjamin Parker. 3 great grandchildren, Jackson, Julianna and Jameson Cordray. 2 step granddaughters: Marco (Brian) Vaughan of Rock Hill, SC and Monica (Todd) Lindsey of Gramling, SC. 4 step great grandchildren, Harris and Caroline Vaughan and Jacob and Harley Lindsey. He was predeceased by a brother: Leon E. McCants of Newberry, SC, one daughter in law: Glenda Caddin McCants of Greenville, SC; one step great grandchild: Carson Lindsay of Gramling, SC. Also survived by one sister in law: Norma Anelle McCants of Newberry, SC and many nieces and nephews
