Obituary

Annette Evans Calhoun, 77, of the Lands Crossing community in Irwin County, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 5, at Arp Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Johnson and the Rev. Tommy Land officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Calhoun was born November 22, 1931 in Ben Hill County to the late James Everette “Red” and Eula Mae Phillips Evans. She lived in the community most of her life and was a former resident of Tifton. Mrs. Calhoun was a former employee of Fitzgerald Underwear and sat with the elderly. She was an active member of Arp Baptist Church and a secret sister.

Mrs. Calhoun is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Joey & Debbie Calhoun of Douglasville; daughter and son-in-law: Wanda & Mike Land of the Lands Crossing community, Irwin County; grandchildren: Burt (Lea) Calhoun, Ian Calhoun, Shane (Betty) Land, Jared Land, Morgan Calhoun and Anna Calhoun; 6 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law: Alvin & Virginia Evans of Perry as well as several nieces and nephews. In Addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James D. “Doc” Calhoun, a granddaughter, Kandice Calhoun and a brother, Junie Evans.
