Obituary

Mr. Joseph Paul McCoy, a longtime resident of Medford and currently of The Villages, Florida, died at his home on Saturday, August 29, 2009. He was 67 years old.
Born in East Boston, Massachusetts, on November 2, 1941, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Alice (Stoddard) McCoy. Joe was Vietnam Era Marine, entering the service at Boston, on December 31, 1958 and receiving his honorable discharge on November 16, 1964. While in the Marines, Joe attained the rank of Corporal and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his service. After leaving the Marines, Mr. McCoy became a State Police Trooper and was assigned to the Harbor Patrol Unit, where he served for more than 30 years, prior to retiring 13 years ago. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed playing golf and loved to build and fix all kinds of things. He had also been a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden, for many years.
Mr. McCoy will be sorely missed by four daughter’s and one son-in-law; Donna M. Bowe of Belmont, New Hampshire, Kathleen M. Hanson and Joan McCoy Mortillaro both of Laconia, New Hampshire and Patricia A. and her husband Stephen Clark of South Carolina, one son and one daughter-in-law; Paul M. and his wife Cynthia A. McCoy of Groveland, two brothers and two sisters-in-law; Jack and his wife Marie McCoy and Thomas and his wife Priscilla McCoy of Plymouth, thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral was from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Friday, September 4, 2009, at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours were Thursday, September 3, 2009, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
