OBITUARY
Fitchburg
Bessie Labovitis, 88, of Fitchburg, died Sunday August 30, at Health
Alliance Leominster Hospital.
Bessie was born in Duviani, Albania, June 1, 1921, the daughter of John
and Aspasia (Lanides) Labovitis. She came to the United States and
Fitchburg at the age of 9. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in
1941 and later from Stevens Business College. Bessie was employed as an
administrative assistant for over 40 years at Simonds Saw and Steel now
Simonds Industries.
Bessie was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, sang
in the Church choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member
of the Ladies Hope Society. She volunteered for many years at the gift shop
of the former Burbank Hospital. She loved music, cooking, baking and was
a great Red Sox fan.
Bessie leaves her nieces Bessie and Constance Eleftherio of Fitchburg,
Melissa Yahia and her husband Larry of Harvard and Pamela Wise and her
husband Chris of Chatham. She also is survived by her nephews Dr. Arthur
Eleftherio of Falls Church, Va. and Peter Eleftherio and his wife Melanie of
Rhode Island. Three grand nieces and three grand nephews. Her brother
Michael Labovitis, her sister Cleopatra Eleftherio and her nephew Dr. John
Eleftherio all predeceased her.
Funeral services for Bessie will be held on Friday September 4, at 11 A.M.
at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 1319 Main St.. Burial will follow in
Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours in the Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blosson
St. are Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M. Contributions in her name may be made
to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or to the charity of one's choice.
