REVERE - Thomas H. McVey III, age 76, formerly of Tewksbury, the 3rd generation owner of T.H. McVey Stone Company in Watertown, died Sunday night, August 30th, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Joan F. (Shaughnessy) McVey, with whom he celebrated a 55th wedding anniversary last November 28th.
Tom was born in Boston on October 4, 1932, a son of the late Thomas H. McVey Jr. and Elizabeth (O'Connell) McVey. He was raised in Brighton, and graduated from Boston Technical High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served stateside during the Korean War. Tom moved to Tewksbury in 1962, where he raised his family and was active in St. William’s Parish. In 1989 he relocated to Revere where he enjoyed a beautiful ocean view. Tom dedicated his life to his family, and was a source of continued strength and guidance to his loved ones, with whom he spent the happiest times in his life. Everyone who knew him enjoyed his great sense of humor. He was a huge fan of all Boston professional sports teams. He devoted himself to his grandfather’s and father's business, and continued its success as a 3rd generation owner of the company, which is now a 4th generation family business, employing even a 5th generation of the McVeys.
Tom is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters, Karen (Burns) Ryan and her husband James, and Susan Tucceri and her husband Paul, all of Tewksbury; two sons, Thomas E. McVey of Revere and Robert McVey and his wife Robin (Doherty) of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Burns) Driscoll of Lowell, Richard Burns Jr. of Medford, Jeff Tucceri of Dracut, Jennifer Tucceri of Swampscott, Robert McVey Jr., Elizabeth McVey and Catherine McVey, all of Tewksbury; a great-granddaughter, Ava Tucceri; a brother, Charles McVey of Marshfield, two sisters, Marilyn McVey of Hyde Park, and Joan Rodenski of FL; and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 5, at 11:30 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, North Tewksbury. Visiting hours will be Friday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Thomas H.
