Obituary

Kazimiera "Cassie" (Patla) Galanek, 83, of Dartmouth died Monday August 11, 2003 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Mieczyslaw "Mike" Galanek.

Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, the daughter of the late Wojciech and Elzbieta (Grzych) Patla, she had lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth for most of her life.

She was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church. In 1999, she was awarded the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River.

A graduate of Campbell's Secretarial School, Mrs. Galanek was employed by various companies in New Bedford and then was employed by Stanley Oil Company as an office clerk until her retirement.

An avid gardener who enjoyed sharing her fruits and vegetables with family and friends, and who maintained a vegetable garden until her death.

Survivors include a daughter, Veronica H. Wainwright, and her husband Charles, of Oxford, MD; 2 sons, Mitchell S. Galanek, and his wife Laurie, of Plymouth and Paul C. Galanek, and his wife Susan, of Trappe, MD; a sister, Helen Patla of New Bedford; 2 sisters-in-law, Rose Galanek of Acushnet and Jenny Galanek of New Bedford; lifelong friends, Alice Jenney of Mattapoisett and Mary Stuart of FL; 8 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.She was the sister of the late Thaddeus Patla, Stella Findley, Stephanie Patla, Walter Patla, Bruno Patla and Bertha Tobojka.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordSaturday August 16, 2003 at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Hedwig's Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday August 15, 2003 from 4-7 PM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
