Russell R. Crawford, 97, of New Bedford died August 29, 2009 at New Bedford Health Care Center.
He was the husband of the late Mary E. "Eleanor" (Hampton) Crawford.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Robert M. H. and Matilda (Miller) Crawford, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Crawford was formerly employed by the New Bedford Fire Department for 35 years and retired as Captain in 1974.
He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #73, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Chief Petty Officer.
Survivors include a nephew and 2 nieces including Sandra Gauthier of Lakeville.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 1st at 8 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, August 31st from 3-6 PM.
