Methuen, MA – Ella M. (Roy) Godsey McGovern, 84, died Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the Caritas Holy Family Hospital.
Ella was born in Lawrence daughter of Joseph and Ella (Bourque) Roy and had resided in Methuen since 1977.
She was a former employee of Robert’s Catering of So. Lawrence , and Western Electric of North Andover. Ella’s true love was volunteering with her friend Ruth Damphouse at the Lazarus House in Lawrence.
Ella was a former communicant of Saint Francis Church of Lawrence prior to its closing. It might be said that she enjoyed quality time with her nieces and nephews.
She was the widow of the late Richard L. Godsey, and is the wife of Francis X. McGovern. Survivors include one son Richard L. Godsey and his wife Heidi and their children Mikayla and Taylor all from Byfield, MA, and one daughter Joyce A. Godsey of Methuen, a brother Leonce Roy of Lawrence, sisters Arlene Roy, Rena and husband John San Antonio all of Lawrence, and Dorothy Proulx as well as several nieces and nephews. Ella was predeceased by sisters Lucille Deshaies, Julie Casey, Rita Roy and brothers Constance, Leo, and Raymond Roy.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday morning, September 2nd, at 9 o’clock in Saint Monica’s Church of Methuen with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Andover. Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, September 1st from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. In lieu of flowers friends may make memorial contributions to Lazarus House, Inc. 260 Park Street Lawrence, MA 01841.
