Violet J. (Lowe) Braley, 84, of Dartmouth died Saturday August 29, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Clinton W. Braley, Jr.
Born in Plymouth, the daughter of the late Harry and Alice (Knight) Lowe, she lived in New Bedford and Acushnet for many years before moving to Dartmouth.
She was a member of the Smith Mills Congregational Church, and a former active member of the First Congregational Church at Lund's Corner.
Mrs. Braley was formerly employed as a bookkeeper for Cliftex Corporation until her retirement. She had previously worked at the Star Store and Hathaway Oil Company.
She was a member of the Dartmouth Friends of the Elderly and had been a volunteer at the Mary Ellen Shop. She was the Senior Sweetheart for the Dartmouth Council on Aging from 2000-2001. She was the first secretary for the Inter-Church Council of Greater New Bedford and a member of the Executive Board of Church Women United.
She will be fondly remembered for her love of making ceramics and her joy in sharing her creations with others.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Braley of Danville, VT and Peter Braley of Fairhaven; her siblings, Albert Lowe of Dartmouth, Alice Ashworth of Peru, Maine, and Ruth Santos of Pocasset; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many devoted nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Beatrice Hopwood, Donald, Harry, Carlton, Stanley, Samuel, and Phillip Lowe.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 1 PM at the Smith Mills Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Tabor Cemetery, Acushnet.
