Charles H. Webster, 73, of Londonderry, NH, died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital in N. Conway, NH. He was born in Londonderry on February 12, 1930, a son of the late Charles and Gladys (Walch) Webster and was a lifelong resident. While studying to become a police officer, Mr. Webster was trained at St. Anselm College and the NH Technical College. Mr. Webster was the first Londonderry police officer to rise through the ranks from Officer, to Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Executive Officer and Police Chief from which he retired in 1987. Mr. Webster had also served as a detective and the juvenile officer with the Londonderry Police Dept. He was one of five officers to be designated to the Chiefs of Police NH Drug Task Force organized by then Governor Steve Merrill. He was a member of the NH Chiefs of Police. In Londonderry, Mr. Webster had also plowed snow for the Town and had been a bus driver. Charlie was very proud of the Town of Londonderry and the State of NH and his affiliations with law enforcement. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hiking, hunting and fishing. He was also devoted to his children, his wife and his brother.
He is survived by his wife, Susan L. (Behrens) Webster of Londonderry, two daughters, Cynthia L. Hedderig and her husband Devon of Londonderry, Wendy M. Webster of Londonderry, one son, Eric C. Webster and his wife Shannon of Jesup, GA, four grandchildren, one great grandson, his brother, Herbert D. Webster and his wife Dorothy of Londonderry, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 15th at 10:00 at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. The burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Londonderry. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 - 8.
