Bettie Jean Powell, 79, Adams, TN, died Thursday, August 27, 2009, at her residence. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Excell Baptist Church with Rev. Terrell Marcom officiating. Burial will be in Sango Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born January 14, 1930 in Trezevant, TN, daughter of the late Richard Carl Jennings and Lillian Pauline Argo Jennings. Mrs. Powell was retired from Barkley Elementary School where she had worked as a teacher's aide. She was a member of Excell Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Billy Powell; daughters, Carla Pitts (Daniel), and Cathy Meriwether (Nick), both of Clarksville; brother, James Hall Jennings, Bethesda, MD; sister, Joan Guthrie, Knoxville, TN; and five grandchildren, Ben Pitts, Levi Pitts, Luke Pitts, Claire Meriwether, and Hunter Meriwether. Pallbearers will be Wayne Powell, David Powell, Matt Smiley, Tim Giles, Hunter Meriwether, and Ben Pitts.
