Joan M. (Hayden) Giannetto, a 13 year resident of Wakefield and formerly of Melrose, died on Thursday, August 27, 2009, at Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford following an extended illness. She was 75 years old.
Joan was born in Chelsea on May 8, 1934. She grew up in Chelsea where she attended St. Rose Parochial School and graduated from St. Rose High School. Joan began working as an operator for the New England Telephone Company for several years before dedicating herself to her husband and children. Later in life, she worked as a waitress at the Officers Club in the Boston Naval Shipyard before it's closing in 1974. She continued her employment at the telephone company and retired as a manager in 1995 after 31 years of service.
Joan is the beloved wife of the late Nicholas J. Giannetto. She is the devoted mother of John A. Giannetto of Melrose, Joan M. Julin of Minnesota, Anne-Marie Peterson and her husband Roger of Lake Atherton, California, Dianne G. Giancarlo and her husband Charlie of Atherton, California, and Nancy A. Farnham and her late husband Richard of Wakefield. She is the loving grandmother of Nicole Fossett, Christopher Farnham, Gianna and Marielle Giancarlo, Rosemarie Julin, Julianne and John A. Giannetto, Jr., the late Andrea Julin and her great-grandchildren; Leah Fossett, Robert Fossett, Andrew Giancarlo, Mikayla Farnham and Gino Davenport.
Joan's Funeral will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Melrose, followed by her Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are on Friday, August 28, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
