Obituary

Edmund Dabney Hadley, 87, Clarksville, died peacefully Thursday, August 27, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his family. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Mickey Richaud and Rev. Dorothy Hartzog officiating. Visitation will follow the service in Dorothy Conroy Hall. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hadley was born Novermber 23, 1921 in Greenbriar, TN. Later his family moved to Ringgold on Tobacco Road, or as he called it, "next best thing to heaven." He was the son of the late Wade Henderson and Elizabeth Dabney Hadley. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean Foster Hambaugh Hadley, his daughter, Billie Anne Hambaugh, son-in-law, Dick Lindsey and his grandson, Richard Lindsey. Mr. Hadley loved the Lord, his family, and his country. He was a 1939 graduate of Clarksville High School. He was employed at Ringgold Mill in 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked. On Christmas day of that year he arrived as a volunteer at the Marine Corps boot camp. He was in the 1st and 3rd Divisions and helped man a 90 millimeter antiaircraft gun in the South Pacific Islands, which also included the liberation of Guam and Iwo Jima. Before the end of his four year service he was back in Camp Pendleton California training for the invasion of Japan. After his military service Mr. Hadley was a successful businessman owning and helping to manage three grocery stores at one time. He later worked for Conroy, Marable, and Holleman in commercial and residential real estate. He was a proud member of Bethel United Methodist Church and Trinity Episcopal Church in Clarksville. He is survived by son, Edmund Dabney Hadley (Debbie); five daughters, Joan Pollard, Ginny Lindsey, Wena Harrison (Ronnie), Jeannie Northington (Mike), all of Clarksville and Dabney Peacher (Dan), Indian Mound, TN; son-in-law, Ben Reed, three brothers, Wade Hadley (Louisa), Bill Hadley (Peggy), and Dick Hadley (Rogate), all of Clarksville; two sisters, Wena Halliburton (John), Clarksville; and Carrie Malone (Don), Springfield, TN; nineteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren with one on the way.
