Middleboro – Charles E. Murphy 85 formerly of Abington passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 26.
Born May 21, 1924 in Weymouth he was the son of the late William L. and Irene C. (Curtin) Murphy. He was raised in Abington and was a graduate of Abington High Class of 1942.
He was a veteran of World War II having served as a Sergeant in the US Army Air Corp from 1943 – 1946.
He worked as an executive housekeeper for more than thirty years, retiring in 1986. He worked at the Brockton Hospital, and the VA Hospital in Brockton, as well as the Ritz Carlton in Boston. He had resided in Liberty, New York for many years where he had many friends, and was employed at the Sullivan County Hospital there.
For a little more than a year, he resided at the Nemasket Healthcare in Middleboro, where he enjoyed the attention of the caring staff.
He loved reading and watching baseball.
He will always be loved and remembered by all for his humor, quick wit and ready smile.
He is survived by two sons, Michael F. Murphy of Abington and Charles E. Murphy of Lakeville, his sister Marion Holmes of Brockton, his six grandchildren Jessica Kinsman of Plympton, Matthew Libby of S. Boston, Cheryl Chandler of Bridgewater, Michael F. Murphy, Jr. of Norwood, Pamela Murphy of Abington and Kevin Libby of Hanson, and his great grandson Everett Kinsman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Ann Murphy.
His funeral service will held Monday August 31 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a mass at 9 AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Sunday August 30 from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association 135 Parkinson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10305.
