WORCESTER - Mrs. Loretta (Lutfy) Cusick, 72, passed away Wednesday August 26th at UMass Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Mr. Henry P. Cusick of Worcester, a son, Ernest “Buddy” Cusick and his wife Donna of Clifton Park, NY, two daughters, Deborah DeFranco and her husband Joseph of Falls Church, Va., Judith Cusick and her husband Christoph Haas of Ramsey, NJ; six grandchildren, Emily Cusick, JP DeFranco, Marisa DeFranco, Natalie Haas, Nik Haas, Jakob Haas; a brother, Ernest “Choppy” Lufty and his wife Mary of Cape Cod; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cusick was born September 12, 1936 in Worcester, Massachusetts a daughter of the late Ernest and Eva (Hajjar) Lutfy.
A graduate of North High School, Mrs. Cusick received her Nursing Degree from Worcester City Hospital, a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Assumption College, and a Master’s Degree in Nursing Management from Anna Maria College.
She worked as a nurse for over twenty years at Worcester City Hospital, and later taught nursing at Worcester Vocation Fanning High School for an additional twenty years.
Mrs. Cusick was a parishioner of Christ the King Church in Worcester. Other activities included Worcester Senior Center, DAV Auxiliary, Massachusetts Teacher Association and REAM, Christ the King Church; Jesse Burkett Little League; Special Olympics; and the US Youth Games. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the games of her grandchildren, Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics.
Her funeral will be held Saturday August 29th from FAZIO FUNERAL HOME, 9 Branch St. Worcester. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at Christ the King Church, Worcester at 10:00 AM. Visiting will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Loretta Cusick Memorial Scholarship Fund (c/o Bank of America) or Christ the King Church.
