Obituary

WORCESTER – John D. “Hooker” Burnett Jr., 64, of Worcester died Monday, August 11 in UMASS Hospital after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 40 years Nancy C. (Wilson) Burnett. Four daughters Sandra LaVerdiere of Lynn, Gail Stapleton of Worcester, Michelle Ciesinski of Danvers and Maryann Burnett of Charlestown; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a daughter Tracy Burnett. He was born in Boston son of John D. and Mary (Coffey) Burnett Sr.

Mr. Burnett was a printing pressman for the Boston Herald for 24 years, retiring in 1979. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Worcester and ran the snack bar for the Connie Mack Little League.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 14 at 11:30 AM in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Calling hours are August 13 from 5 to 8 PM in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home (www.Royfuneral.com) 12 Hammond Street.
