Mary (Souza) Martin, 95, of Mansfield passed away on Tuesday August 25, 2009 at the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Martin.
Born in Taunton, MA on October 10, 1913 she was a daughter of the late Joseph L., Sr. and Mary (Salles) Souza.
Mary grew up in Mansfield, was educated in Mansfield public schools and was a graduate of Mansfield High School. She was married to her late husband John soon afterwards.
Mary was a retired Head Teller, having worked at the former Foxboro National Bank in Foxboro and was previously employed as a bank teller while residing in Pennsylvania and California.
A former communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her loving family. A resident of Mansfield for many years, Mary had also made her home in Stoughton, MA, Pennsylvania, California, Florida and New Hampshire.
Mary’s family wishes to thank the staff of the Daggett- Crandall-Newcomb Home and the Community Visiting Nurse Agency of Attleboro for the wonderful care and kindness shown to her.
She was the dear sister of Laura Hinds of East Bridgewater, Joseph L. Souza, Jr. of Mansfield and the late John Souza, Emma Dupont, Louise Souza and Cecelia Souza. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday August 28th at 9:30 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St.(Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers Mary’s family has requested that donations in her memory be to the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home 55 Newland St. Norton, MA 02766 or to Hospice of the Community Visiting Nurse Agency 10 Emory St. Attleboro, MA 02703.
