
Joseph "Gervie" MacEachern, age 73, of Wilmington died suddenly at home on August 23rd. He was the devoted husband of 48 years to Alberta "Snooks" (MacMullin). Born on June 22, 1936 in Iverness, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia he was the son of the late Joseph and Florence (MacIntyre) MacEachern.
Joseph moved to Wilmington in 1960. He honorably served in the United Sates Army stationed in Germany from 1961 to 1963. Upon his return home, Joseph worked as a barber in Wakefield for a number of years and then began working for the B&M Railroad as a conductor and retired in 2001 following a 38 year career. Joseph was a devoted communicant and Eucharistic Minister of St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4982. In recent years Joe worked as a greeter and funeral attendant at the Dello Russo - Cavanaugh Funeral Home in Wilmington, formerly the W.S. Cavanaugh & Son Funeral Home as well as the Dello Russo Funeral Homes in Woburn and Medford.
Joe will be greatly missed by his many family members and friends. His gifts of kindness and limitless generosity will be remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
In addition to his beloved wife, Joseph is survived by his devoted daughters, Eileen Bergin and her husband Christopher of Newbury and Bonnie MacEachern of West Roxbury. He also leaves his two little "sweetie pie pies" granddaughters, Mara and Alana Bergin. He is further survived by his four brothers, Norman of Wilmington, John and Daniel of Toronto, Ontario and Gerard of Iverness, Nova Scotia and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Joseph's funeral will be held from the Dello Russo - Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Thursday, August 27th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo - Cavanaugh Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s memory to St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, MA 01887.
