Obituary

BATTAGLIA, Colombo Of Wellesley passed away on August 22, 2009 at the age of 96. Son of the late Mario and Aurelia (Pantoli) Battaglia. Beloved husband of Linda M. (Bertaccini) Battaglia. Devoted father of the late Adelaide M. (Battaglia) Maccini and her husband Paul Maccini of Wellesley. Loving grandfather of Robert J. Maccini and his wife, Kristen of Cumberland, RI, Paula J. Mirabito and her late husband Frank of Wellesley, Linda M. Cole and her husband Gabriel of Wellesley and Catherine A. Davies and her husband Christopher of Wayland. Proud great grandfather of Ian and Cate Maccini, Griffyd, Dyllan and Lilly Cole and Brennan and Reece Davies. Born on February 2, 1913 in Gambettola, Italy, Colombo came to America as a child to join his parents, who made the trip several years earlier to settle in Wellesley. He attended and graduated from Wellesley Public Schools and the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. As an engineer and builder, Colombo spent his career designing and building homes in and around Hudson, NH. During World War II he temporarily moved his family to New London, CT, where he worked building Submarines in the Shipyard of Electric Boat. An avid reader and gardener, Colombo enjoyed both debating political issues and quietly tending the abundance of fruits, vegetables and nuts in his garden. Services will be private with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
