Michael J. Begley Jr., 54, of Seabrook Beach, N.H. passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2009 surrounded by his loving family at the home of his mother, Helen Begley and sister, Eileen Pekarski, in Lawrence. Michael was born in Methuen on November 14, 1954, son of Helen (Daly) Begley, and the late Michael J. Begley Sr. He was raised in Lawrence's Arlington neighborhood and graduated from St. Rita School and Lawrence High School, class of 1972.
Michael was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 25 years as a letter carrier in the Prospect Hill section of Lawrence. He also was employed as a driver for Town Taxi in Lawrence. Michael was a Friend of Bill W. and an active member of A.A. for 20 years and was a sought-after speaker in service to this program. Michael was proud of his Irish-American heritage and had traveled to Ireland on several occasions with family members. He was an avid sports fan devoted to the Red Sox, Celtics, Cleveland Browns and a season ticket-holder to the Boston Bruins. He loved classic rock music and attending such concerts whenever possible. He delighted in summer days at the beach, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and took great pride in his two sons.
In addition to his loving mother, Helen Begley, he will be sorely missed by sons, Michael of Portland, Maine and Conor of Seabrook Beach, N.H, one brother, Kevin Begley of Seabrook Beach, sisters, Sheila Bernaby of Danville, N.H., Kathleen and her husband, David DeFillippo of Lawrence, and Eileen Pekarski of Lawrence, nephews and nieces, Timothy, Brian, Kerry Ann, Daniel, Matthew, Sheila, Kathryn, Patricia, and grandnephew and grandnieces, Kyle, Nevaeh and Sophia. He is also survived by an aunt, uncles and many cousins.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 26th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Mary's Church in Lawrence, MA.
Burial will follow in the Saint Mary's Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
