Obituary

Jesup- Mr. James “Minnie” Landon, age 67, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Twin Oaks in Alma after an extended illness. He was a native of Brantley County and lived most of his life in the Waycross area. He was an auto mechanic, loved to fish, enjoyed wildlife and country music. He was a Christian and had attended University Blvd. Church of God and First Baptist Church of Nicholls.

He was preceded in death by his father George Ottis “G.O.” Landon, brother J.R. Landon and a sister Janice Landon Manning.

Surviving are the children of James Landon and Mildred Griner: Peggy Ann Byrd of Hortense and Ward Landon of Hortense; mother: Vera Landon of Blackshear; four sisters: Lawanda Bradley and husband Bobby of Eufaula, AL, Jeanette Landon of Patterson, Shirley Landon of Blackshear, and Betty Summers of Alma; five brothers: Julian Landon of Patterson, Lawton Landon of Jacksonville, FL, Ray Landon of Hortense, Josh Landon of Waycross, and Jerry Landon of Screven; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a special family friend Gloria McDonald and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 2 pm from the James R. Gordon Memorial Chapel of Howard-Jones-Nobles Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4 until 6 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Landon will lie in state two hours prior to the service on Saturday.
