Richard L. Griffin, 78

Richard L. Griffin, 78, of Mansfield passed unexpectedly on Tuesday August 18, 2009 at his residence.
Born in Brockton, MA on August 6, 1931 he was a son of late Frederick L. Lovely, Jr. and Barbara Griffin.
Richard grew up in Mansfield, attended Mansfield public schools, was a 1949 graduate of Mansfield High School and was a member of the high school track team.
On September 6, 1950 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 13 years. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era was honorably discharged on October 30, 1963 with the rank of A3C (E-2).
He later moved to Baltimore where he made his home for 20 years, and worked for the State of Maryland Education Department as an Office Worker for 20 years prior to retiring in 1997. He returned to his hometown of Mansfield 10 years ago.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Richard was an ardent New England Patriots and Red Sox fan. He enjoyed playing chess and card games and attending movies with his dear friend Janet Sullivan.
He was the brother of Barbara A. Clarke of Attleboro, Judith H. Selig of Plymouth and the late Donald F. Lovely and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday September 4th at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours are omitted and arrangements are under the care and direction of the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
