Paul Smith, 80, of Oakridge Drive, went to eternal rest on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Backus Hospital in Norwich with his family at his side.
He was born in New London on April 29, 1929, son of the late George and Ola (Mosher) Smith. Paul attended Chapman Tech and later served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed a 20-year career at Millstone Power Plant, retiring as Plant Manager. At that time, he purchased Pequot Ledge Campground on Gardner Lake in Oakdale, CT where immeasurable family memories were made, as well as friendships. Paul was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry.
In 1950 he married the love of his life, Elizabeth D'Angelo Smith, his beloved wife of almost 60 years. Beside his wife, he is survived by their daughter, Paula Smith-Robinson and her son Mark of Gales Ferry and many nieces and nephews, especially MPITA.
He was predeceased by his brother Earl R. Smith of Pawcatuck and his grandson Paul-Michael. Paul was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, as the other love of Paul's life was his grandson Mark. You could always find the two of them together, on the boat, fishing, or tinkering in the workshop.
Paul’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Sunday from 5-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Rte. 12, Gales Ferry, on Monday at 10am. Burial will be at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery.
