Raymond J. DeFabio, 83, died Sunday evening, August 16, 2009. He was the loving husband of the late Joanne (Lauritsen) DeFabio, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.
Born in Bridgeport, CT on June 23, 1926, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Leahy) DeFabio. He was raised and educated in Bridgeport and was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Phi Fraternity. Mr. DeFabio served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. DeFabio was employed as a Purchasing Manager for General Electric at the RiverWorks plant in Lynn, where he retired after thirty-three years of service.
A Danvers resident since 1961, he was an active member and founding parishioner of Saint Richard Parish. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, and following the local sports teams. An avid golfer, he was for a number of years a member at the Ferncroft Country Club and in more recent years enjoyed playing golf at the New Meadows Golf Club.
He is survived by his children: Barbara DeFabio of Peabody, Jill Akerman and her husband Christopher of Danvers, and Duane DeFabio of Georgia, two grandchildren, Adam and Connor Akerman, many nieces and nephews, and a loving extended family. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Becker.
Mr. DeFabio’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 9AM in Saint Richard Parish, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association, 5 Federal Street, Danvers, MA, 01923, or the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Fl., Brookline, MA 02445.
