Obituary

Edward Dionne 77, summered in Naples Maine and wintered in Tavares Florida. August 17, 2009. Devoted husband of Shirley (Valley) Dionne, he never missed a week of bringing her fresh flowers. They spent many years raising their family in Wilmington Mass. While there he worked as a computer consultant. Yet his full time occupation was Dad, Whether he was cheering on his daughter Jennifer at a softball game, or anticipating seeing her play the saxophone with the High School Jazz band at a local parade; his youngest daughter Stephanie always knew his smiling face was in the crowd while she was a football cheerleader, and her biggest fan at her tennis matches. He faithfully brought his son, Stephen to practice for the St Paul’s Boys Choir every Sunday for several years, when he was older; he could be found on the sidelines at his soccer games. Their house parties and late night scavenger hunts were legendary in town, and much anticipated.
After his retirement, he enjoyed the company of his beloved Grandsons, Mitchel and Garrett. They spent countless hours on woodworking projects which adorned their Enchanted Cottage in Maine, nestled on what he proudly referred to as the “Dionne half-acre”. He busied himself in Florida with endless handyman projects, volunteer work, cooking for the ladies, and tirelessly chasing a golf ball around many courses.

Tragically he was stricken with Muscular Dystrophy for many years, yet his spirit never wavered, and his determination never faltered. Never one to complain, yet the first person to offer assistance to friends and strangers alike. He will be missed and eternally remembered as their big brother by his sisters Norine Robbins (widow of Al) of Hyannis Mass, Sally Hunt (married to Robert) of Brockton Mass, his brother Peter Dionne (married to Ann) of Readville Mass. His many nieces and nephews, all have their own cherished memories and stories of Uncle Ed. His ‘favorite’ son in law Bob Traer of Salem NH with whom he shared many a golf game, will continue to man the fire pit at the annual lobster bake. Stephens’s fiance, Tina Reynolds affectionately and infinitely will miss his strength, integrity, and culinary delights.

His family welcomes you to celebrate his Life at St Pius X Church, Milton, Mass on Saturday August 22, 2009, 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Edwards name to: Muscular Dystrophy Association 138 Conant Street 1st Floor Beverly, MA 01915
