Worcester Gertrude M (Ovaskainen) Bendoraitis 91 a resident of University Commons Nursing Home died August 7th in Saint Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center following an illness.
Her husband Victor P Bendoraitis died in 1965. Two brothers Reino A Haapakoski and Donald Haapakoski, and a sister V. Margaret DeWaele all predeceased her. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.Mrs. Bendoraitis was born in Glassport Pennsylvania a daughter of Eero and Ida Marie (Tanskanen) Ovaskainen and lived in worcester for most of her life.
Mrs. Bendoraitis worked for more than forty years as a Domestic and Governess for the Coghlin family before retiring in 1977.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, Saint Martha's Guild, Post 5, American Legion Auxiliary, then meeting at G.A.R. Hall on Pearl Street. She was at one time a member of Our Lady of Vilna Parish.
The funeral will be held Saturday August 9th from The Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home 298 Grafton Street with a Mass at 10am in Blessed Sacrament Church 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery.Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 8:30 to 9:30 am Saturday August 9th.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Homeless Veterans Shelter, Worcester.
