Obituary

Townsend- Richard Charlton Ryals, age 88, died August 17, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of McIntosh County. Mr. Ryals was a World War II Veteran who participated in the Normandy Invasion with the United States Army and a retired welder from Babcock and Wilcox and the McIntosh County School System. He was a member of New Living Water Church of God and a former Sunday School Superintendant.

Mr. Ryals was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Pearl Ginn Ryals and his daughter, Janis Ryals Logan.

Surviving are two daughters: Addie Lee (Bobbie) and husband Dewane Simmons of Townsend and Virginia (Genny) and husband Dave Doby of Rock Hill, SC; one son: Richard Kevin and wife Jean Ryals of Townsend; one sister: Evie Rozier of Darien; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 11:00 am from the New Living Water Church of God in Townsend with the Reverend Jamie Rivera and Connie Rivera officiating.

Interment will follow in the Middleton Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening beginning at 6 pm at the New Living Water Church of God.

Active Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Robert Pumpelly and staff, Bob Harrison, Jr., Robert Edenfield, and Scott Flowers and Kelly Stegis with Davita Dialysis.
