Obituary

Salem, Laurier L. Soucy age 89 of Salem, died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Jeannette M. (Cimon) Soucy, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Born in Salem and raised in Beverly, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Michaud) Soucy. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy Class of ‘37 and of Beverly High Class of ’39. Larry was a veteran of World War II and served with the Navy in Florida as an instructor for the Scouts & Raiders, the precursor of the Navy SEALs. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Beverly and married Jeannette in 1946. Prior to their marriage, he had begun working for her father’s business, Danvers Laundry, which he continued to operate until his retirement 3 years ago.

Larry was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He was a loving family man, who also enjoyed any social event that promoted a worthy cause. He was a faithful parishioner of the former St. Joseph Parish, where in years past he volunteered in fundraising for both parish and school. Larry was a member of the St. Joseph Alumni Assoc. and the AARP.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 6 daughters, Constance M. Chase and her husband Robert S. of N Andover, Suzanne J. Soucy of Nantucket, Joanne M. Swan and her husband Kenneth of Scarsdale, NY, Patrice M. Maihos of Salem, Elaine C. Soucy and her companion Clifford of Hawaii, Eileen A. Shahin and her husband Omar of Plaistow, NH, a son Mark L. Soucy and his wife Maryanne of N Reading, and a sister, Jeanne A. Masse and her husband Leon of Salem. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Scott Chase, Brooke Cochran, Pamela & Kimberly Swan, Christopher, Jillian & Amanda Soucy, Rebecca & Elizabeth Maihos, Nadine & Jacob Shahin, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral mass on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at St. James Church, Salem, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours: Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem.
