WORCESTER-Christie E. Gikas, 88, of Worcester, died Sunday, August 16th in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Aphrodite (Kamtsikas) Gikas; a daughter, Margaret Gikas, wife of the late Dennis Wixted of Worcester; several nephews, nieces, and Godchildren.
He was born in Grapsi, Albania, the son of Evangelos and Efrosini Gikas and lived here many years. Mr. Gikas was a bartender at Putnam & Thurston for many years and later at the Plaza Club for 15 years, before retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and its Seniors Group, the Order of Ahepa, the Pan Epirotic Society, and the American Legion. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and he enjoyed reading the newspaper daily and watching television.
The funeral is Wednesday, August 19th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 11:00 A.M. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, August 18th from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
