MARSHFIELD-Mary P. (Needham) Hoey, 78, of Marshfield, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15th surrounded by her family. She leaves her loving husband of 54 years, William J. Hoey, Jr.; four sons, William J. Hoey, III of Worcester, James P. Hoey of Marshfield; Peter C. Hoey of Sutton and Paul A. Hoey of New Bedford; seven daughters, Mary C., of Marshfield, Patricia A. Lemerise of Worcester, Ann M. DeVito of Webster, Julia M. Pisegna of Oxford, Rose M. Willand of Douglas, Eileen E. Hartman of North Stonington, CT and Colleen T. Berlo of Plymouth; 23 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her son, Thomas M. Hoey; two brothers, Monsignor Thomas J. Needham and John "Jack" Needham; and sister, Julia A. Needham predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Thomas J. and Catherine A. (O'Malley) Needham, and was a graduate of the former Ascension High School.
By far, her greatest joy in life was her family. She was always happiest in the presence of her beloved husband, children and grandchildren. Her warm and infectious smile greeted everyone. Mary loved people and was a "mother" to all who knew her.
Her memory, spirit and love of life will be deeply cherished by all whose lives she touched, and she will remain in our hearts forever.
The funeral is Thursday, August 20th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, August 19th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
