Betty June (Singer) Dyer, of 10 Rockville Rd., Voluntown, a loving wife, and devoted mother and grandmother, died unexpectedly Thursday at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence on her 64th birthday.
Mrs. Dyer was born in Westerly on August 7, 1939 the daughter of John and June (Fenner) Singer.
A longtime resident of Mark Street, Pawcatuck, she was employed as a nurses aide, working in area nursing homes and later in private duty before retiring.
Betty is known for her love of her family, and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. After her retirement, she began a second career taking care of her beloved grandchildren.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Stonington. In her spare time, she enjoyed flower gardening, stained glass designs and knitting. She and her husband also enjoyed attending auctions.
Betty was married to George E. Dyer Jr. in Westerly on May 23, 1959.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Dyer is survived by her children, George E. Dyer Jr. of Griswold, June L. Dyer of Florida, and Mark A. Dyer of Voluntown; her brothers, Gary Singer of Maine and Walter Singer of Sterling, CT, and 5 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Robert A. Dyer and a brother, John Singer.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Monday from 6-8pm. Her service will be conducted at The First Baptist Church of North Stonington (Pendleton Hill Rd at Wyassup Road) on Tuesday at 10am. The Rev. Dave Thomas, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Pendleton Hill Cemetery.
