Gertrude T. “Gert” Plante, 80, of Woonsocket, died Friday at Mt. St. Francis Home.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Alexandrina (Milotte) Pelletier. She was raised in Woonsocket and resided in Cumberland, Albion, Manville, and Florida at various times during her life.
Mrs. Plante retired in 1991 after working at AT Cross and previously at Owens-Corning Fiberglass. In her earlier years Gert was also a hairdresser, worked at Woonsocket Suit and Dress, and several textile firms in the area.
Gert was a member of the St. Joseph, Sacred Heart, and Holy Family Senior Citizens groups, the AARP of Woonsocket, and Riverside Tenants Association.
She is survived by a son, Richard N. Gaulin, and his wife Karen, of Stevensville, Maryland, two grandchildren, Bryan Gaulin and Stephanie McGowan, both of Maryland, and 7 great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Gregory Gaulin. Gertrude is also survived by her close friend Normand Dansereau of Woonsocket.
Her funeral will be Monday at 11:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 71 Central St., Manville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon, in St. Ambrose Church, School St. Albion. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Monday from 10:45-11:30 am prior to Mass. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ambrose Parish, 191 School St. Albion, RI. 02802.
