Peabody: Francis J. ‘Frenchie’ Provencher, age 71 of Peabody, died Monday, August 10, 2009 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a long illness.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Louis A. and Agnes C. (LaBonte) Provencher. For many years he lived in Salem and later in Beverly while working for the former United Shoe Machinery Corp. of Beverly. In 1984 he was forced to retired on disability and moved to Peabody.
Frank served with the Army, stateside, at the beginning of the Viet Nam war years. He was a dedicated AMVET for 45 years, and was an officer and past commander of the Salem Post #53. He was, at one time, Provost Marshall for both the State and National AMVETS. Frank was currently a member of the Post #161 Franco-American AMVETS in Lynn.
He is survived by his former wife June L. (Cheney) Provencher of Maine, 3 sons, Craig J. Provencher and his companion Sandra Quam of Beverly, Eric J. Provencher and his wife Rachel Wright of Maine, Daryl J. Provencher of Beverly, a brother Edward J. Provencher and his wife Alice of Peabody, 2 sisters, Agnes C. Orlowski and her husband Chester of Salem & Patricia A. Woods and her husband Tom of Illinois. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Ashley, Amber & Abigail Provencher and Justin Quam, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Robert L. Provencher of Tennessee
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Tuesday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m. to be followed by his funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem at 11:30 a.m. Visiting hours: Monday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
