Joseph J. Sullivan, 74, of Mattapoisett died August 6, 2003 at Tobey Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Beryl M. (DeCosta) Sullivan and son of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth A. (Briggs) Sullivan.
Mr. Sullivan was born in Fall River and lived in Mattapoisett most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.
Mr. Sullivan was formerly employed as a fire fighter at Otis Air Force Base for over 30 years until his retirement. He also served with the Mattapoisett Volunteer Fire Department, was an assistant building inspector for the Town of Mattapoisett and maintenance supervisor for Village Court Housing Development.
He served in the US Navy during the end of World War II and was the past commander of the Florence Eastman American Legion Post 280 in Mattapoisett.
Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Timothy Sullivan, and his wife Kelle, of Tampa, FL, Daniel Sullivan, and his wife Maryann, of Rochester and Joseph J. Sullivan, Jr. of Mattapoisett; a daughter, Mary Ellen Stanley of Peterborough, NH; 13 grandchildren, Patricia Stanley, Nichole Sullivan, Rebecca Stanley, Matthew Stanley, Daniel Sullivan, Katelyn Sullivan, Jessica Sullivan, Timothy Sullivan, Vanessa Sullivan, Samantha Sullivan, Molly Sullivan, Jillian Sullivan and Shane Sullivan.
He was the brother of the late Helen M. Sullivan and Mary E. Hornbostel.
