METHUEN — Patricia M. (Treanor) Holt, 77, of Methuen, died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 at home following a brief illness, surrounded by her husband and children. She will be forever loved and missed.
Patricia was born in Winthrop and raised in Everett and was a graduate of Malden Girls' Catholic High School. She continued her education and received her nursing degree from Whidden Memorial School of Nursing. Her career began at Boston City Hospital, and during her career she worked at numerous hospitals throughout the North Shore including Danvers State Hospital and Lynn Hospital. Her fondest memories were from her time as head nurse at Union Hospital Emergency Room, which Patricia found fast-paced, very challenging and rewarding. She was also known as the neighborhood nurse, where ever she resided. Pat always said, "Once a nurse always a nurse." She loved and enjoyed helping people in need.
Prior to her retirement she was employed by Blue Cross/Blue Shield as a malpractice investigator, and health care lobbyist for the State House. Upon her retirement she spent most of her time as a volunteer at Saint Monica's in Methuen as a nurse and for activities that required her assistance. Many of her hobbies and interest included swimming, gardening, sewing and crafts. Pat's family has quoted "there is likely a handmade magnet crafted by Pat in almost every household in the Methuen area."
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, William C. Holt, Sr. of Methuen; children, William C. Holt, Jr. and his wife Peach, John J. Holt and Joseph W. Holt, all of Florida, Deirdre Duemling and her husband Carl of Methuen, Andrea Rigano and her husband Basil of Malden, Regis Connolly and her husband Kevin of Danvers, Liam Holt and Jen Jop of Methuen and Hannah Holt and her wife Sheila, also of Methuen; sister, Norine (Treanor) Maloney and her husband James of North Reading; brother, Eugene Treanor and his wife Karen of Australia; grandchildren, William C. Holt, III, Eric, Justin, Chris, Janine, Erik, Desiree', Philip, Jared, Deirdre P., Rachel, Basil III, Christopher, Andrew, Arianna, Marina, Bobby, Kristie, Siobhan, Bridget, Patrick, Adam, and Thomas; 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Patricia was predeceased by her children, James E. Holt, Robert B. Holt, and infant daughter, Patricia Mary Holt; as well as her brother, James Treanor.
ARRANGEMENTS: Memorials can be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Monica's Church in Methuen. Burial will take place at a later date at the family's convenience.
