New Bedford - Maria Conceicao (Brazil) Silva, age 87, died Sunday, August 9, 2009 at home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Fernando da Silva, formerly of New Bedford. Maria was the mother of Fernanda Profita and Flora da Silva both of New Bedford and Maria F. Araujo of Dartmouth. Mrs. Silva was the sister of Flora Simoes of St. Jorge and Jose Brazil of California. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Silva was a daughter of the late Maria daConceicao and Jose Brazil. She was born in St. Jorge, Açores, Portugal and lived in this area for the last 42 years. Maria was employed as a weaver at Berkshire Hathaway and other various textile manufacturers.
Mrs. Silva’s funeral will be at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St., Thursday at A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial being at St John the Baptist Church at A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
