Santina (Perella) Russo, of Hearthstone of Woburn, died Monday after a brief illness. She was 97.
Santina was born in Italy and raised in Medford the daughter of the late Antonio and Josephine (Falcione) Perella. Santina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved the company of her family and friends. In 1940 she and her late husband John founded Russo’s Marine in Medford and served there as the office secretary until her retirement in 2000. The business is conducted by her son and grandsons. Leaving her home of 50 years in Stoneham, she joined the retirement community at Hearthstone in Woburn.
She was the beloved wife of the late John Russo. She was a devoted mother of Larry Russo and his wife Bee of Stoneham. She was a loving grandmother to Larry, Jr and his wife Lisa, Alex and his wife Kristin. She was a loving great-grandmother to John, Alex, Cameron, Jolene, Caroline and dear sister of the late Joe, Ray and Sam Perella. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 - 9. Services will conclude with burial at St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
