Obituary

Debra Jean Cook Durden, 56, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, August 9, in Milledgeville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 Wednesday, August 12 at Crossview Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Gordon and Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cook Cemetery at Pineview. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.

Debra was born January 30, 1953 in Macon, Georgia to Essie Wilkerson Cook and the late Earl A. Cook. She had lived in Fitzgerald most of her life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1972. Debra attended Ben Hill-Irwin Technical School. She was a former employee of Dorminy Medical Center, Life Care Center and the Jessamine Place. Debra was a volunteer for The American Cancer Society, the Christian Kitchen and Dorminy Medical Center. She was a member of Crossview Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters: Christie Durden of Douglas and RoxAnne Durden of Fitzgerald; son: Chris (Chantal) Cook of Ocilla; granddaughter: Carman Cook of Ocilla; mother: Essie W. Cook of Fitzgerald; sisters: Anita Sweat of Fitzgerald, Linda (Terry) Bostick of Tifton and Ruby (Norman) Hodgman of Fitzgerald; brothers: Roger (Lisa) Cook of Ocilla and Terry Cook of Fitzgerald; husband: Roy E. Durden of Milledgeville; stepdaughter: Connie Collins of Milledgeville as well as several nieces and nephews.
