Obituary

SALEM- Ralph E. Hobbs, Jr., 87, husband of Jane S. (Skeffington) Hobbs, of Salem, MA, died on Sunday, August 3, 2003 at Aynsley Place in Nashua, NH following a short illness.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Ralph E. and Florence (Felton) Hobbs, Sr.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 39 years as a machine designer at the United Shoe Machine Corp in Beverly.

A resident of Salem since the 1930's, Mr. Hobbs was a member of Essex Lodge, AF & AM, Salem, a member of the board of directors of the Brookhouse Home for Women, Salem, the Bass Haven Yacht Club in Beverly, The Salem Willows Yacht Club, and for a five year period, he was the Harbor Master for the City of Salem.

Besides his wife, with whom he shared over 62 years of marriage, he is survived by one son, Richard E. Hobbs of Melbourne, Florida, one daughter & son-in-law, Sally and Alan Ross of Nashua, NH, two grandchildren, Tammy E. Ross of Peabody, Andrew S. Ross of Nashua, NH, one brother, Everett W. and his wife, Patricia Hobbs of Salem, one brother-in-law, Albin Zegarowski of Salem, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gladys Zegarowski.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 11 am at the Grace Church in Salem, Episcopal, 385 Essex St., Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, are Wednesday, 4 to 8 pm, with members of Essex Lodge, AF & AM conducting a Masonic service at 7 pm.
