Vito A. Capraro, a life long resident of the North End, died Sunday, at the Massachssetts General Hospital. He was 88
Mr. Capraro was the son of the late Antonio and the late Paula (Termine) Capraro. A veteran of the United States Army during World War II, Vito was wounded in combat at Guadalcanal and was awarded the Purple Heart.
After the war, he worked as a tool mechanic at the Charlestown Naval Yard. After his retirement, he worked in the gift shop of the Old North Church.
Mr. Capraro was a member of the Boston Council of the Knights of Columbus, the Medford Lodge of Elks, VFW North End Post, the DAV and the Dante Alleghieri Society.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jennie (Pizzano) Capraro. He leaves his son Anthony J. Capraro of Boston; daughters Paula M. Capraro of Boston and Corinne Capraro Flanaganand her husband Brian of Winchester. He was the grandfather of Anthony V., Mark M., Nora C., and Joanna M. Capraro. He was the father in law of Noreen Capraro. He was the brother of Frances Lyons of Charlestown, and the late Josephine Termine, Catherine Maniscalco, Antoinetta, Marco, and Joseph Capraro.
Friends may visit Wednesday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in Sacred Heart Church, North End, with the Rev. Vincenzo Rosato celebrant, Thursday at 10 AM.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
