NAPLES, FL: John L. McPhail, age 83, a retired resident of Naples, Fl since 1992, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the Avow Hospice in Naples, FL.
Born in Lowell on October 23, 1925, he was the son of the late Lauchie and Cecelia (McArthur) McPhail.
He leaves his son, John W. McPhail, a daughter, Catherine A. McPhail and his former wife, Doris S. McPhail all of Tewksbury.
Mr. McPhail served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in France.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a stationary engineer at the Tewksbury Hospital.
Mr. McPhail was a member and past master of the Wamesit Masonic Lodge A.F & A.M. of Tewksbury, a member of the Alleppo Temple Shriners of Wilmington and a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite.
He enjoyed softball and frequently donated to the Lely Girls Softball team in Naples, FL. In addition, while residing in Tewksbury, Mr. McPhail contributed to a local men's softball team known as the "McPhails", which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Relatives and friends will be received Thursday, Aug. 6th, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., (Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m.) at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Interment services at Tewksbury Cemetery are private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114 are requested.
