Bessie (Ostrofsky) Mazer of Chelsea passed away on August 2, 2009. She was 98 years old. Born in the West End of Boston, MA she lived in Chelsea most of her life. Bessie was educated in the Boston School’s and Girls High School. She also went to school for accounting and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Elm Street Synagogue for many years.
Bessie was the beloved wife of the late Irving Mazer. Devoted mother of Eleanor Freeman, Ina Mazer, and the late Marilyn Mazer. Loving daughter of the late Abraham and Ethel Ostrofsky. Dear sister of the late Lewis Osten, Max Ostrofsky, Barney Ostrofsky, and Harry Ostrofsky. Loving grandmother of Nadeen, Perry, David, and Eric Freeman. Bessie was also the loving great grandmother of Zachary and Jacob Freeman.
A graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, MA on Tuesday August 4 at 10:45 AM. Memorial observance at the home of Eleanor Freeman on Tuesday following burial and Wednesday and Thursday 3-8 PM. Memorial observance will be continued Sunday at the home of Ina Mazer 1-4 PM. Donations in her memory may be made to the Shaloh House School, 50 Ethyl Way, Stoughton, MA 02072 or to the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, 17 Lafayette Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home for their care.
