DUDLEY - Jane M. (Zylka) Radzik, 96, of Pine Street, died Saturday, August 1, at home after an illness. Her husband of 53 years, Stanley W. Radzik, died in 1985.
She leaves a nephew, Paul J. Harvanek of Yuma, AZ; a great nephew, Thomas A. and his wife Michelle Harvanek of North Grosvenordale, CT; a great grandniece, Camille Harvanek; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta S. Harvanek, in 1993.
She was born in Dudley, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Grzyb) Zylka and was a lifelong resident. She was the last surviving member of the Bartlett High School class of 1929. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Radzik was a communicant of Saint Andrew Bobola Church and a member of its Holy Rosary Sodality. She taught all levels of Christian Doctrine classes for over 40 years and was a lector at the church since 1971. She was a member of the Arch Confraternity of Prayer and Penance of Worcester since 1956. She was honored as first runner-up for the Christian Women of the Year Award in 1965.
She was skilled at sewing and embroidering. She made altar linens for 5 different churches and for many years sewed albs for newly ordained priests.
Mrs. Radzik was a self-taught naturalist; she gathered and classified an extensive collection of pressed wild flowers (over 500 varieties). She gave lectures about her findings throughout Worcester County for 17 years. She later donated her collection to Western Springfield College. She also conducted nature classes for girl scout troops at various schools.
She was a long time member of the Hubbard Regional Hospital Guild.
The funeral will be held Thursday, August 6, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, with a concelebrated Mass at 10:30 AM in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace Webster. A calling period will be from 8:45 to 10:00 AM Thursday, August 6, in the funeral home.
