BRENDA MOORE STONE died Saturday, August 1, 2009 while in Hospice care in St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, Tn. The funeral will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 4th at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home with Rev. Skip Armistead officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Dover, Tn., immediately after the funeral service. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday the 3rd of August and from 9:00 a.m. until hour of service at Neal-Tarpley.
She was born June 1, 1936, in Indian Mound, Tn., daughter of the late Ora Smith Moore and Amos Carmack Moore. She was educated in the Stewart County School System and earned Baccalaureate and Master’s degrees from Austin Peay State University. Brenda devoted her life to teaching first grade beginning in the Fort Campbell Dependent schools, Knoxville City Schools, Clarksville City schools and The Clarksville Academy. She was the founding first grade teacher in 1970 at Clarksville Academy, retiring in 2000. Recognized as one of the leading first grade teachers in the Clarksville area, her life was devoted to children.
Survivors include husband Benjamin P. Stone, daughter Dr. Elizabeth Stone Norris (Keith Taylor Norris), grandsons William Stone Norris and Taylor Moore Norris of Frisco, TX., sister Joan Moore Smith, Clarksville, niece RaAnn Smith Hillis (Larry) Dickson, Tn.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Parker, John Parker, Bill Cobb, David Harris, Gary Norris and Bobby Rorie.
