Jane E. MacCorkle, 84

Dateline: Norton, MA

Jane E. (Gillespie) MacCorkle, 84, of Norton passed away on Friday July 31, 2009 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton. She was the beloved wife of Charles N. MacCorkle to whom she was married on December 1, 1946.
Born in Boston, MA on January 15, 1925 she was a daughter of the late James A. and Wilhelmina (Smith) Gillespie.
She grew up in Boston and was educated in Boston Public Schools. A resident of Norton for the past 55 years Mrs. MacCorkle was a dedicated homemaker to her loving family and had also worked at K-Mart in Raynham and North Attleboro where she enjoyed doing the “Blue Light Special”. Jane had also worked at Kilburn Glass in Norton and in the late 40’s and early 50’s was very proud of working at Filene’s in Boston.
A life member of the Norton Historical Society, Mrs. MacCorkle was a faithful supporter of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton where she enjoyed baking her famous banana nut bread for church functions. Jane loved going to flea markets on the weekend and while driving would always stop at “all” yard sales.
In addition to her beloved husband of over 62 years she is survived by her loving daughters Janice I. MacCorkle of Bridgewater and Nancy J. Place of Ohio. She was the sister of the late Robert Gillespie, Hugh Gillespie, Henrietta “Irene” May and William Gillespie. Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren Melissa Place and Derek Place both of Ohio, several nieces and nephews and Janice’s fiancé Jay Fenton of Bridgewater who she loved as a son.
Private funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 5th at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home in Norton. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in North Attleboro.
Visiting hours have been omitted and in lieu of flowers Jane’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
