Clara Rosemary Grant, a resident of Somerville, died at her home on Wednesday morning, July 29, 2009. She was 64 years old.
Born in Barbados, Rose was the beloved daughter of Everton Callendar of England and the late Tabitha Grant. She was a Supervisor of the food service dept at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, for many years. Ms. Grant was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Cambrdge. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching Tennis. She also enjoyed cooking, knitting and dancing. Above all, She was a devoted family person, always lending her time and talents to her beloved family.
She will be sorely missed by her loving daughter; Michelle Grant and her companion, Stafford Johnson both of Somerville, siblings; Jean Fleming of North Carolina, Marcia Grant of Lynn, Judy and her husband David Hewitt of North Carolina, James Grant of Brockton, Sheila Jones of New York, Norma Margaret Canning of England, Westmore Ishmael of Canada, Louie Ishmael of Barbados and Paul and Ronald Callendar, both of England, two granddaughters; Cheyanna and Dyanna Grant Johnson, both of Somerville and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank Geraldine Wright, Dulcie Lewis and Mable Moore Pollard for their loving care given to Clara.
Her Funeral Service was celebrated in St. James Episcopal Church, 1991 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 11 AM. Many relatives and friend were in attendance. Visiting hours were Friday, August 7, 2009, at the church, from 7 to 9 PM. Interment was private. Donations in Clara’s memory may be made to her daughter Michelle Grant.
