Wylie Paul “Buddy” Cunningham, 66, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, July 31 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Monday, August 3 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Cunningham was born August 29, 1942 in Ben Hill County to the late Paul E. and Mae Hulett Cunningham. He grew up in Fitzgerald, where he played football for the Purple Hurricanes and graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1961. He moved back five years ago from Bowie, Maryland. Mr. Cunningham retired after forty years of service from Safeway Grocery in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He served in the Maryland National Guard and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Cunningham is survived b a son and daughter-in-law: Michael & Angie Cunningham of Kansas City, MO; daughter and son-in-law: Nancy & Troy Long of Fitzgerald; 4 grandchildren; sisters: Jeanette (Joe T.) Fletcher and Betty Bussell, both of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Jacqueline Smith.
