Obituary

GLOUCESTER: William J. Metzner, 84, formerly of East Main Street, died early Tuesday morning, July 28, 2009, in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness. He was the husband of Priscilla L. (Brown) Metzner.
Born in Columbus, Ohio on October 7, 1924, he was the son of the late Edward and Hannah (Skyver) Metzner. He had been a resident of Gloucester since his early twenties. A U.S. Navy, he served during World War II
Early on, Bill was employed as a cook at the former Michelle’s Diner on Main Street and Bob’s Clam Shack. Among numerous jobs in the trades, he had worked as a mason and carpenter. His last employment was with the former Empire Clothing Store, having retired in 1985.
In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Carol Metzner of FL, Alan and Brenda Metzner of NC and Ronald and Diana Metzner of Gloucester, two grandsons, Eric and Mark Metzner of FL and two brothers, Charles, husband of Peggy Metzner and Leroy Metzner all of OH. He was also predeceased by his son, Bruce Metzner.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Friday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Dolliver Memorial Cemetery.
